Latest Fact Sheet - Next of Kin
Abstract
Averagely, it will cost GH7,500.00 ($870) and more than 32 weeks to access the funds of a deceased relative. Administrative barriers stifling the efforts of family members (Beneficiaries and Next of Kin) from accessing the funds of their deceased relatives at the banks, insurance and pension firms have led to extreme family poverty. The Fact Sheet highlights the unclear administrative processes and documentations beneficiary/Next of kin must surf through to access the funds. All documentations of the various institutions including banks, insurance and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) are listed to guide families in their quest to access the funds of their deceased relatives. These documents are not harmonized and the processes to access the funds are not streamlined. With this, ILAPI is advocating to remove the administrative barriers to take families out of poverty.
