In this article, I may not be using statistics to challenge government’s own statistics used over the years to convince Ghanaians all is well. To those in government everything is right and those in opposition, everything is wrong. For the neutral technocrat of the Civil Society (CSO), we are tagged to take position to throw shots at our enemies to receive handouts to enhance our activities so we could continuously make the government unpopular.

Mr. Ntow of Donkorkrom would not need the data on GDP from the full time of 2010 to second half of 2021 to understand why a ball of kenkey or loaf of bread has reduced in size but prices unchanged. The interesting thing is to see improvement in individual social and economics lives.

It is not how much you earn but how what you have earned can help one live a meaningful life. It is also not about the value of inflation figures but how individual economic activities could be inflated to created wealth.

Prior to the 2016 elections, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) promised a more capitalist government with lower taxes and more production. The liberal conservative party led by a socialist leader presented a capitalist manifesto and after winning the election at a huge margin of over 53%, implemented socialist policies.

The government adopted the big government principles of 120 ministers and over 500 appointees into State Own Enterprises (SOEs), Municipal and District Chief Executives, Board Members, creation of new offices and led a state sponsored industrialization agenda, giving huge tax waives to companies that agreed to place their factories under One-District-One Factory initiative.

The NPP is known to always place the private sector to lead the job creation agenda but this time, it started the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) without a blueprint to recruit 100,000 graduate unemployed individuals to be given free monies of GH700.00 per month for 3 years.

This state sponsored NABCO has collapsed without any exit plan. The state sponsored National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP) gave $10 million to support selected but ambitious business proposals to start and grow their business so they could create jobs is also in limbo.

The same socialist leader, implemented the Free Senior High School (FSHS) without a policy blueprint, the program is currently facing the economic symptoms of malaria. Funds are delayed for months to be disbursed for schools to sustain the academic programs and textbooks are also not available. The challenges of the FSHS is becoming unbearable, onerous and its concomitant worries are unresolvable. The inability of parent to pay for their wards school fees and related cost is because there is poverty and no opportunities in the country.

Again, the government has made public school expensive and same government is telling the citizens public school is expensive for the poor so he will make it free using proceeds from the oil exploration to benefit all. Who made public education at the second cycle expensive?

The Freebies President did not end there with the FSHS but continued with another free $1 million every year for all the 275 constituencies, free one-district-one- dam, free laptop for teachers and free internet for FSHS students.

President Nana Akuffo Addo abolished and reduced 11 different taxes in his first year of governance and introduced and increased 4 other taxes in the second year. From January 2018, fuel prices at the pump is increasing every quarter of the year until COVID-19. Currently, fuel prices are increasing every two months and new taxes have been introduced. The simple economics is that, socialism would not allow for lower taxes when huge welfare programs and state sponsored policies are executed.

Industrialization is spontaneous and not state induced especially when the business environment is conducive to accommodate innovations, inventions and philanthropism. The Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) program to feed the state led factories is dwindling in silence and no one is talking about it. The PFJ started well with propaganda and now collapsing in socialism.

The NPP party believes in the principles of individual liberty, property right, free market and private economy. However, the synergy to enhance the realization of these property-owning principles is misplaced because President Nana Akuffo Addo believes in Kwame Nkrumah’s socialism which failed before his was overthrown.

All the social interventions of the government have failed and Ghanaians are in hardship. This explains why socialism fails wherever it is tried and President Nana Akuffo Addo’s government haven’t been able to solve a single problem of the country.
